It now appears that the Randy Moss to Green Bay soap opera is not going to end soon.

But, it's getting more interesting by the hour.

Profootballtalk.com and the Boston Herald reported this morning that a deal could be imminent. Later in the day, several of the people involved -- including Packers President Bob Harlan -- denied the reports. That prompted speculation that the rumors were being stoked by strategic leaks from agents.

The Herald, which is covering the situation because of the New England Patriots' interest in Moss, cited a source in Wisconsin as saying the Packers will send backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers and a seventh-round draft pick in 2008 to Oakland for Moss and tight end Courtney Anderson. The Packers also would receive a conditional pick from Oakland in 2009, which would be based on Rodgers' production in his first two seasons with the Raiders.

The Herald's source indicated that Moss agreed to restructure his contract, which will pay him $20 million in base salary over the next two seasons.

Two interesting connections in this story: Rodgers played his college ball at the University of California and is well-known to fans in the Bay Area; and, more important, Packers quarterback Brett Favre and Moss share the same agent, Bus Cook, and are believed to have talked on the phone in recent weeks about uniting at Lambeau Field.

Will it happen? Possibly. Will there be more false starts and stops? Probably.

Thank goodness for the NCAA basketball tournament. If it wasn't for that, things might really get out of hand.
