On June 9 two Milwaukee Police officers were injured in the line of duty near 2nd and National Avenue in Walker's Point. Officers Bryan Norberg and Graham Kunisch survived multiple gun shot wounds, but were critically hurt.

Members of the Walker's Point business community are organizing TYMPD (Thank You, Milwaukee Police Department), a one-day block party on Saturday, June 20 outside Steny's Tavern, 800 S. 2nd St.

The family-friendly event is free and features live music from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. There will be food and drinks available for purchase, with all proceeds going to the police officers and their families.

Check the event Web site for more details.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
