After 18 years in business, Mr. Shoe, 1533 N. Farwell Ave., has closed. The second location, which opened on May 1 at 2680 N. Kinnickinnic Ave. in Bay View, is also defunct.

"Sadly, Mr. Shoe is closed and will not reopen as a brick and mortar store in Milwaukee," says owner Lee Sloane. "We are working on increasing our website and hopefully that will be an option for our previous customers. We were hoping to have someone take over the stores, but were unsuccessful in finding a new buyer."

Mr. Shoe's strength was its eclectic shoe offerings that ranged from upscale to funky to exotic dance ready. It is places like Mr. Shoe that keep the East Side wonderfully weird.

Sloane says construction in front of the building contributed to the store’s inability to make enough sales to stay open.

"We could not overcome these obstacles. But I would like to thank all the wonderful customers we've had over the years and I will say I truly enjoyed the 18 years we were here. Thanks for the great memories and support Milwaukee," says Sloane.
