Milwaukee Mustangs defensive back Kelvin Rodgers has been awarded the AFL Spalding Highlight of the Week while Mustangs wide receiver Andrae Thurman takes home the Cutters Catch of the Week award after their performances in Week 10 of the Arena Football League season.
Rodgers has become as much a threat in the kick returning game as any returner in the league. He has recorded a kick return for a touchdown in three straight games.
"It is an honor to be named an iron man and making the highlight play of the week, especially when it comes two weeks straight. Even though these are individual awards, I would not be able to do anything without the help of my teammates," Rodgers said. "It is a great feeling to go into a game knowing you have the ability to return a kick at any given time of the night. Going into Friday's game I just want to continue to make the plays I have all season."
Rodgers was awarded the Spalding Highlight of the Week by the Arena Football League for his 58-yard return for a touchdown against the Cleveland Gladiators last Friday night in Milwaukee.
Trailing by two scores midway through the fourth quarter, Rodgers bounced off of several tacklers and zigzagged up and down the field, utilizing every blocker available.
He finished the night with a game-high 186 all-purpose yards. Expected by many to be simply a stud defensive back, Rodgers is also quickly proving himself to be among the best returners in the AFL.
Thurman made a fingertip grab for a Milwaukee score on the NFL Network's broadcast of "NET10 Arena Football Friday" in Week 10.
Thurman finished the game with 12 catches for 154 yards and three touchdowns. In two games with the Mustangs, Thurman has 240 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He will receive the Cutters Catch of the Week award for his efforts in Week 10.
