Sometimes -- though not enough for my liking -- a news tidbit just falls out of the sky.  Or in this case, out of the phone.  That's how we learned that Traveler, a magazine by National Geographic, will feature Milwaukee in its September issue, providing detailed information about city guides, podcasts, blogs and radio stations from Brew City.

I was more than happy to help researcher Husna Haq from the magazine's Washington, D.C. office, but she already had most of her facts straight.  She knew all about local radio programming, print and online magazines -- and fortunately about OnMilwaukee.com, too.

The piece is called "The Brewhaha," and will be a part of the magazine's monthly "48 Hours" department.  The author, Margaret Loftus, will focus on Milwaukee's neighborhood and attractions revival, and how the city has moved beyond its beer and bratwurst reputation.  It will spotlight the Milwaukee Art Museum, Pier Wisconsin, Usinger's, the Third Ward and the Riverwalk, as well as Sanford, Roots and Alterra.

There will also be an online component to the article, which Haq is compiling.  We'll have more information when the issue gets closer to publication.

Andy is the president, publisher and founder of OnMilwaukee. He returned to Milwaukee in 1996 after living on the East Coast for nine years, where he wrote for The Dallas Morning News Washington Bureau and worked in the White House Office of Communications. He was also Associate Editor of The GW Hatchet, his college newspaper at The George Washington University.

Before launching OnMilwaukee.com in 1998 at age 23, he worked in public relations for two Milwaukee firms, most of the time daydreaming about starting his own publication.

Hobbies include running when he finds the time, fixing the rust on his '75 MGB, mowing the lawn at his cottage in the Northwoods, and making an annual pilgrimage to Phoenix for Brewers Spring Training.
