Even if you're paying close attention, it's sometimes difficult to keep up with the latest in food news here in Milwaukee.  So here's a taste of what's new and notable.

Attention, domestic goddesses.
You won’t want to miss the appearance of the original "Domestic Goddess," Nigella Lawson in Milwaukee on Friday, Feb. 21 at The Grain Exchange Room, 225 E Michigan St.  Join Bartolotta’s for a menu featuring recipes from Lawson’s newest book, "Nigellissima."  Lawson will speak and sign copies of her book for all in attendance.  The price for this event is $135 per person, plus tax and grautity.  Price includes one signed copy of "Nigellissima" per person. For reservations, call (414) 727-6980.

Wisconsin Cheese Mart recently announced big changes for its Cheese Bar, which will now be called The Uber Tap Room.  The Uber Tap Room brings the art of pairing Wisconsin Cheese with Wisconsin beer to whole new level. Wisconsin cheese lovers will now have the opportunity to explore the store’s extensive selection of artisan cheeses paired perfectly with over 36 Tap Beers, all in a cafe-style setting. The menu comprises a wide selection of the store’s 175 cheeses made only in Wisconsin, along with a huge selection of Wisconsin-made beers and highly recommended list of wines. The Uber Tap Room will be open Sunday-Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Visit for details.

Sushi isn’t just for the evening anymore. Screaming Tuna, 106 W. Seeboth, is now open for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy the Screaming Hopper, Jumping Tuna Hopper, Sumo Stack, Steak Katsu Don or a three egg omelet. Speaking of brunch, you won’t want to miss your chance to hang out with friends drinking your own customized mimosas over at Balzac Wine Bar, 1716 N Arlington Place! Stop over for brunch on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and enjoy half priced bottles of champagne ($100 and under) to match with a half-carafe of juice. Choose from Cava Cava, Prosecco, or Brut with juices like orange, grapefruit, or juice spiked with selected liquors.  And you don’t have to limit your mimosa-guzzling to brunch, the Champagne bar will be open all day on Sundays. The Wisconsin Pork Association and the Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board are inviting the public to experience the flavor and quality of foods produced by the state’s farmers. The 2013 pork and soy tasting, held on Jan. 31, will feature menu creations from seven chefs participating in the Wisconsin Taste of Elegance during the Wisconsin Corn/Soy Expo.
