The Brewers open the National League Division Series today against Arizona. Here's the play-by-play, updated after every half inning.

First inning

Diamondbacks: On Gallardo's first pitch, Willie Bloomquist reaches on a base hit. Aarom Hill pops out to second baseman Rickie Weeks. With Justin Upton batting, Bloomquist steals second base. Upton reaches on a base hit to left; Bloomquist thrown out at the plate on a great throw from Braun to Lucroy. Miguel Montero grounds out to Gallardo to end the inning. Totals – 0 runs; 2 hits; 0 errors; 1 LOB (Brewers 0, Diamondbacks 0).

Brewers: Facing Ian Kennedy, Corey Hart flies out to right. Nyjer Morgan flies out to right. Ryan Braun works the count to 2-2 before flying out to Bloomquist to end the inning. Totals – 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 LOB (Brewers 0, Diamondbacks 0).

Second inning

Diamondbacks: Chris Young works Gallardo full before grounding to third. Jerry Hairston makes a nice play to get Young at first for the out. Gallardo makes quick work of Lyle Overbay, striking him out on three pitches. Ryan Robers ends the inning with a fly to Hart in right. Totals – 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 LOB (Brewers 0, Diamondbacks 0).

Brewers: Fielder opens the inning with a good at-bat, but gets caught looking with a fastball on the inside corner. In 15 playoff at-bats, he's got just 1 hit. One. That's all. Weeks works Kennedy full and draws a walk, the Brewers' first baserunner of the game. Hairston battles Kennedy to a 2-2 count and reaches when Ryan Roberts can't field the ball at third. Yuniesky Betancourt pops out to Hill in shallow right field. Jonathan Lucroy ends the inning with a fly out to left. Totals – 0 runs, 1 hit, 2 LOB (Brewers 0, Diamondbacks 0).

Third inning

Diamondbacks: Parra strikes out looking. Kennedy does the same. Home plate umpire Ron Kulpa is fairly generous with the zone today, it seems. Bloomquist grounds out the Hairston to end the inning. Through three, Gallardo's at 40 pitches. Not too bad. Totals – 0 runs, 0 hit, 0 LOB (Brewers 0, Diamondbacks 0).

Brewers: Gallardo popped out to short, Hart grounded out to third and Morgan was caught looking. Kennedy makes quick work of the Brewers, needing just eight pitches to retire the side. Totals – 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 LOB (Brewers 0, Diamondbacks 0).

Fourth inning

Diamondbacks: Hill walks, though Lucroy thought he went around on a check-swing. Gallardo follows by striking out Upton, who looked at strike three. Montero sends Gallardo's first offering deep to right but Hart makes the catch on the warning track for the second out. Young strikes out swinging to end the inning. Totals – 0 runs, 0 hits, 1 LOB (Brewers 0, Diamondbacks 0).

Brewers: Braun works the count to 2-2 then fouls off three straight pitches before sending a fastball into left for a base hit. Fielder follows with a double down the left field line, putting runners at second and third with nobody out. Kennedy's first pitch hits Weeks in the elbow, loading the bases. Braun scores on Hairston's sacrifice fly to center. Betancourt grounds into a force at second, retiring Weeks but Fielder moves to third. Lucroy ends the inning by grounding into a force at second. Totals – 1 runs, 1 hit, 2 LOB (Brewers 1, Diamondbacks 0).

Fifth inning

Diamondbacks: Gallardo needs just seven pitches to get through the Arizona fifth. Overybay flies out to center while Roberts and Parra ground out to third and second, respectively. Totals – 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 LOB (Brewers 1, Diamondbacks 0).

Brewers: Gallardo grounds out to shortstop. Hart flies out to right. Kennedy hits Morgan in the rear. Braun singles to left. Fielder with a drive into the left field corner but very playable for Parra. Brewers threaten, but don't cash in. Totals – 0 runs, 1 hit, 2 LOB (Brewers 1, Diamondbacks 0).

Sixth inning

Diamondbacks: Gallardo gets Kennedy to look at strike three but follows by giving up a base hit to Bloomquist – just his second base runner since the first inning. Hill flies out to Braun in left. Hairston makes a nice running grab and throw of Upton's grounder to end the inning. Totals – 0 runs, 1 hit, 1 LOB (Brewers 1, Diamondbacks 0).

Brewers: Weeks flies out to left and Hairston follows with a fly to right, just shy of the warning track. Betancourt (who may have uttered his first two words to a reporter this season when he said excuse me while trying to get his bat) triples ... on a 1-0 count, for the record. Lucroy adds an insurance run when his floater drops in left, right between Bloomquist and Parra. Gallardo grounds into a force at second, ending the inning. Totals – 1 run, 2 hits, 1 LOB (Brewers 2, Diamondbacks 0).

Seventh inning

Diamondbacks: Montero creates a tense moment when Betancourt and Braun both persue a pop-up near the line but Yuni makes the catch – and holds on to it. Young follows with a fly to deep center, but Morgan gets there in plenty of time. Morgan ends the inning with a running grab of Overbay's fly to the wall in center. Totals – 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 LOB. (Brewers 2, Diamondbacks 0).

Brewers: The Brewers have taken control of this one. Hart grounds out to short and Morgan strikes out. Braun follows with a double – his third hit of the game – and then Fielder breaks the game open with a two-run homer to right field. That would be it for Kennedy, who went 6.2, allowing four runs on eight hits, walking one with three strikeouts, a home run and two hit batters. Brad Ziegler came on in relief and got Weeks to ground out to second to end the inning. Totals – 2 runs, 2 hits, 0 LOB (Brewers 4, Diamondbacks 0).

Eighth inning

Diamondbacks: Ryan Roberts leads off with a home run to center but Gallardo comes roaring back, striking out Parra, pinch-hitter, Sean Burroughs and Bloomquist. Totals – 1 run, 1 hit, 0 LOB. (Brewers 4, Diamondbacks 1).

Brewers: Hairston walks. Betancourt lines out to center. Lucroy lines out to right. Pinch-hitting for Gallardo, Mark Kotsay grounds into a force at second to end the inning. Totals – 0 runs, 0 hits 0 LOB (Brewers 4, Diamondbacks 1).

Ninth inning: John Axford comes on in relief. Hill flies out to center. Upton strikes out swinging and Montero ends it, grounding out to second. Totals – 0 runs, 0 hits 0 LOB.

Final score – Brewers 4, Diamondbacks 1.
