The Institute of Visual Arts (Inova) at UWM opens an exhibition of work by the artists who received the Greater Milwaukee Foundation's Mary L. Nohl Fund Fellowships for Individual Artists in 2010. The Nohl Fellowship exhibition opens on Friday, Sept. 30, at Inova/Kenilworth, 2155 N. Prospect Ave.

It brings together work by three artists in the Established category: Brent Coughenour, Paul Druecke and Waldek Dynerman; and four artists in the Emerging category: Sarah Buccheri, Neil Gravander, Ashley Morgan and Chris James Thompson.

The Fellows were chosen in November 2010 from a field of 136 applicants by a panel of three jurors: Sheryl Conkelton, an art historian, curator and writer based in Philadelphia; Nathan Lee, a critic and curator based in New York; and Lucía Sanromán, associate curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.

Funded by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation's Mary L. Nohl Fund and administered by the Bradley Family Foundation, the Mary L. Nohl Fund Fellowships for Individual Artists provide unrestricted funds for artists to create new work or complete work in progress. The program is open to practicing artists residing in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties.

Inova will host a reception to honor the Nohl Fellows on Friday, Sept. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. Two of the 2010 jurors, Sheryl Conkelton and Nathan Lee, will be in attendance and will give an informal gallery talk at 6:30 p.m. Nohl Fellow Neil Gravander will offer an interactive video performance at various points during the evening.

Seven additional events have been scheduled in conjunction with the Nohl exhibition. All of these events are free, and include two screenings and a live audio/visual performance at the UWM Union Theatre; a poetry reading; a gallery talk and a lecture.

An exhibition catalog will be available for purchase in the gallery during the opening and throughout the exhibition.

Gallery hours are Wednesday and Friday-Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.; Thursday noon-8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through Dec. 4. Inova/Kenilworth will be open on Gallery Night and Day, Oct. 14 and 15.
