Deck shuffleboard may be typically associated with sunny weather and warm temperatures, but NorthSouth Club will keep the good times sliding into snow season with the bar's newly announced winter shuffleboard league.

Running Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8 p.m. beginning Jan. 19 through March 3, NorthSouth Club's shuffleboard leagues will pit teams – ranging from two to six players – against one another across a six-week championship series. Teams will play two games a night, all officially refereed by the bar's "ShufflePros," with a playoff at the end of the run. The winner gets bragging rights and, most importantly, a free shuffleboard party for a dozen people featuring a barrel of New Glarus Brewing Company beer and plentiful barbecue from Smoke Shack.

And in case your skills aren't quite championship level, you can still have a good time playing with friends, using terms like "tang" and "biscuit," and enjoying league night drink specials from New Glarus and Jack Daniel's.

“Shuffleboard is an activity anyone can play even with no experience, yet still be competitive, so it’s the perfect league sport," said Bars & Recreation's social marketing manager Madeline Redell. "Combined with our drink specials and prizes at stake, it’s sure to be a good time."

Registration costs $120 for a team. To sign up, slide over to Bars & Recreation's website – and here's to some fun heated competition even in the coldest months of the year.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
