With the recent flooding in Louisiana and Saturday’s game between Wisconsin and LSU, the Green Bay Packers, Carmex and Delaware North have teamed up to donate a combined $55,000 to the American Red Cross in Louisiana to assist with flood relief efforts.
The funds will support Louisiana disaster relief and recovery efforts. The American Red Cross is coordinating a massive relief operation in the Louisiana region to help residents and communities recover, but with more than 110,000 homes damaged in the floods, Southeastern Louisiana is still in dire need of assistance.
With this in mind, the Packers, Carmex and Delaware North are inviting fans to join in the effort and contribute if they are able.
Red Cross volunteers will be collecting cash donations at each Lambeau Field gate prior to Saturday’s game to benefit those in need, and, inside the stadium, the TundraVision video boards will instruct fans how to donate by texting the American Red Cross.
Those interested in donating are asked to text ‘LAFloods’ to 90999 to make a $10 donation on your cell phone bill to the American Red Cross Louisiana flood relief. Fans can donate online by visiting www.redcross.org/donate and selecting "Louisiana floods" within the "Use my donation to support" dropdown menu.
"As we get ready to welcome LSU and Wisconsin for the College Classic, we're concerned by the large number of people who have been impacted by the devastating floods in the last month," said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. "We are proud to partner with Carmex, Delaware North and many others to donate to the American Red Cross so that our donation reaches those who need it most as the Louisiana area continues to restore their communities."
A check presentation for the amount donated from the Packers, Carmex and Delaware North will take place on the field prior to Saturday’s game.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with those recently affected by the flooding. Wisconsin is rooting for you, Louisiana, and we hope that this donation will help impacted communities move one step closer to rebuilding," said Paul Woelbing, President of Carma Laboratories. Carma Laboratories is based in Franklin, WI and manufactures a range of Carmex lip care products. Carmex is the title sponsor of the College Classic game.
Funds raised will support the more than 3,200 Red Crossers from all 50 states who have rushed to assist in the recovery, which is far from over.
"Delaware North is linked to Louisiana through our business, but we are bound by our friendships there," said Rick Abramson, Executive Vice President and COO of Delaware North, the food and beverage partner of the Green Bay Packers. "We thank the Packers for allowing us to be part of this donation that will help our friends and neighbors rebuild their lives in the Bayou state."
