Music photog Pat Graham has had work published in "Rolling Stone," "Spin Magazine," "NME," "Punk Planet" and scores of other huge music publications in the States and across Europe.

But before he got his start in Washington D.C. shooting bands like Fugazi, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists and Bikini Kill, he was a creative high school student here in Milwaukee.

Now living in London, Graham has published his first collection of works from his two decades worth of rock photography. "Silent Pictures" captures the time he spent touring with bands like Modest Mouse, Tortoise, The Shins and The Make-Up.

Graham's got stories to tell and pictures to show, and you can meet him Harry W. Schwartz Bookshop, 2559 N. Downer Ave., Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. His new book is available, and Schwartz is donating a portion of all store sales between 6 and 10 p.m. to WMSE.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
