As I was driving out to the Times Cinema last week to catch a MIFF screening I noticed that Another Blessings Café -- a relatively new coffee shop at 5010 W. Vliet St. that opened in the spring of 2006 -- is now a quaint Italian restaurant called Pizzeria Tazza.
I didn't want to be late for the movie, so I didn't go inside, although, from the street, the interior looked sleek and modern with nice alternative lighting. There was still a banner outside instead of permanent signage, implying its arrival is still pretty recent.
As Another Blessings Café, the West Side coffee spot owned by enthusiastic entrepreneur Eugene Bonner -- who you can read about in my interview with him here -- was short-lived and had replaced the previous, and equally as short-lived, Blessings Café.
Hopefully this Vliet Street location isn't one of those infamous Milwaukee "black holes," especially in the wake of such a successful and on-going Washington Heights resurgence.
Has anyone been there yet and tasted its fare?
OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.
As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
