I always tell people that it's the quality of life that makes Milwaukee strong. It's incredibly livable, easy-going yet vibrant and true to its roots at the same time.

Portfolio.com, in a "Quality of Life" analysis of the country's 67 largest metropolitan areas, today ranks Milwaukee as the 43rd best overall. By population we're No. 38.

While I'd love to see our rank higher, being in the top 50 is good. Still, there's plenty of room for growth.

Portfolio ranked based on a variety of categories including economics, cost of living, traffic, housing, education and more. See full results here.

Raleigh, N.C., earned the top spot and Milwaukee beat out cities like Pittsburgh (48), Buffalo (54), Cleveland (59) and Miami (62). Chicago ranked No. 38 overall.
