Potawatomi Casino Hotel will mark Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday, with a series of events celebrating Native American history and culture. The day’s highlights include a special tribute on one of Milwaukee’s most prominent landmarks.

On Monday night, The Hoan Bridge will be lit in red, yellow, black, and white. These colors represent the traditional medicine wheel, symbolizing different meanings for various tribes, such as the four seasons or cardinal directions.

Inside the casino, video screens will display Native American dancers, showcasing traditional dances with intricate symbolism and pageantry. From Noon onward Monday, the screens will display the traditional dances.

Indigenous Peoples Day was first recognized in 1989 in South Dakota. Wisconsin officially acknowledged the day for the first time in 2019, and the first presidential proclamation of Indigenous Peoples Day occurred in 2021. The day is meant to honor America’s first inhabitants and the Tribal Nations that continue to thrive today.
