With gas prices on the rise and new policies and ideas on the table, it's time to look at how we get around. We all need to get someplace and we use many different modes of transportation to do so. As we kick off 2011 at OnMilwaukee.com, we're taking an in-depth look at how we get around with a special "Transportation Week," featuring all kinds of stories about how Milwaukee gets where it's going. So, buckle up, hop on and all aboard.
Just a few short weeks ago my odometer hit the 100,000-mile mark. I, thinking I was funny, joked more than once that my reliable four wheeler just hit its expiration date.
Apparently, my car has a sense of humor too.
On the very week we decide to discuss all the many ways Milwaukeeans get around town, my mode of transportation loses its power steering.
I still count myself lucky that this is all that went wrong and nothing drastic happened. I've heard horror stories of engines falling out and other dubious anecdotes, but at least I can still get around while my car is impaired and awaiting its day at the shop. Even still, cranking around turns and taking five minutes to park and un-park my car is getting kind of old.
Next time the speedometer has a noteworthy roll-over, I think I'll just keep it to myself.
Contrary to her natural state of being, Renee Lorenz is a total optimist when it comes to Milwaukee. Since beginning her career with OnMilwaukee.com, her occasional forays into the awesomeness that is the Brew City have turned into an overwhelming desire to discover anything and everything that's new, fun or just ... "different."
Expect her random musings to cover both the new and "new-to-her" aspects of Miltown goings-on, in addition to periodically straying completely off-topic, which usually manifests itself in the form of an obscure movie reference.
