Locally-made Purple Door Ice Cream is now available at local grocery stores.

The wholesale ice cream manufacturer, owned and operated by Lauren and Steve Schultz, is offering four flavors – Cinnamon, Espresso, Mint Chip and Salted Carmel – in pints at Sendik's Food Market in Shorewood.

Beginning Saturday, May 13, Vanilla, Chocolate and Butter Pecan get added to the lineup and Purple Door will be available at any of the three Milwaukee-area Outpost Natural Foods locations.

The expansion into the retail market coincides with the launch of the Purple Door Foundation. A portion of the proceeds from each pint or container sold will be put towards the community.

Lauren and Steve plan to work with local homeless shelters to provide milk for residents.

"Our hope is that providing this nutritious source of calcium, the residents will need to worry less about feeding themselves and their families and instead focus their energy into creating opportunities for housing, education and pre-employment preparation," the couple said in an email announcement.

You can sample Purple Door Ice Cream tomorrow between 1-4 p.m. at Sendik's, 4027 N. Oakland Ave. Purple Door is also available at Honeypie Cafe and Pastiche Bistro and Wine Bar.
