Walter's barely looks like a tavern on the outside. In fact, when I took a co-worker there recently he asked if the building used to house a bank. But inside, there's a long snaking bar, with a perennially-sizzling grill, a range of video games, a nice pool room and friendly patrons.

There are five TVs usually showing sports, but on the night I was there Milwaukee was awaiting a snow storm and so it was all weather. But while it was cold and threatening snow outside, Walter's was warm as ever.

Menu: You'll find Miller standbys, Lakefront, Sprecher, Foster's, various Leinie's varieties and Newcastle on tap. Lots more in bottles, of course.

Price: There are all kinds of daily food specials, including great tacos from 6 until midnight on Thursdays and an all-day fish fry on Fridays. On Monday and Tuesday there are $3 Spotted Cow, Capitol and Newcastle pints. And Monday, from 6 to midnight is roll back the price night with $2 domestics and food specials, too.

When to go: After leagues and on weekends -- and taco night -- Walter's is bustling. But it's also a nice place to have a low-key drink on a Monday, too, for example.

Dress: Casual.

Don't miss: Have I mentioned the tacos? Also, you'd be surprised how tasty the wings are, even though they're not made on-site.

Parking: There's a lot out back and street parking on 70th Street is easy, too.
