Michael Redd's season is over.
The Bucks announced today that their leading scorer will miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his left knee during the third quarter of a victory over Sacramento Saturday night at the Bradley Center.
Redd, 29, underwent a magnetic resonance imaging exam this morning. Bucks team doctor Mike Gordon diagnosed the injury. Surgery will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
"I'm deeply disappointed but everything in life happens for a reason and this is God's plan for me," Redd said. "I have faith in my teammates and coaches to continue to work together to make our fans proud. I will be supporting them wholeheartedly from the sidelines and working equally hard to return to the court in the best condition possible for next season.
"A special thank you to all our fans for their great support this season -- my ninth as a Milwaukee Buck. Our team still has work to do and I know with our collective support we can cheer them on to a special season."
In 33 games this season (32 starts), Redd averaged a team-high 21.2 points with 3.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.0 steal in 36.5 minutes.
The game Saturday marked Redd's 550th in a Bucks uniform. That ranks eighth in franchise history. He is the fifth-leading scorer in team history.
