This morning's weather report may show sunny days ahead, but there was some sad news in the forecast for regular Channel 12 viewers: WISN's Sally Severson announced her retirement, first during Monday morning's newscast then on Twitter. 

The happy part of this bittersweet announcement: While the veteran meteorologist will shift the weather reports on the WISN 12 morning newscast into the more-than-capable hands of her colleague Lindsay Slater beginning on Aug. 26, Severson will still be a part of WISN's news broadcasts at 11 a.m. for another year as she begins her "slow move to retirement." 

Severson has delivered the morning weather reports on WISN 12 for more than 30 years – and since before there even was a morning newscast on the station. Over  her long and accomplished career, Severson covered everything from severe weather in Wisconsin to national stories including Hurricane Charley in 2004, the 2013 Oklahoma City tornadoes and Sept. 11. Her work over the years earned Severson an Emmy (for her work in the WISN documentary "Street Smart Kids"), the honor of Best Weathercast in 2013 from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, an induction into the Emmy Silver Circle in 2013 and an appreciative Milwaukee audience for three decades and beyond.
