Risk / reward: We haven't seen enough film to know for sure if we like the Bucks' selection of Yi Jianlian with the No. 6 pick in the draft.

But, we love the fact that general manager Larry Harris went "all in."

Harris could have taken a "safer" pick like Corey Brewer or Joakim Noah. But, he swung for the fence and took the guy he thought could have the biggest impact, and that was Yi. (pronounce it "E.")

The pick received mixed reviews from many fans, but there is an aspect that can't be overlooked. China is an emerging market in sports and business. All pro leagues are looking for ways to tap into opportunities created by 1.3 billion people and the 2008 Olympics (which could feature Yi playing along side Yao Ming).

With Yi in Milwaukee, the Bucks -- and their corporate partners -- will get a jump start in cultivating fans in China. The value of that cannot be underestimated.

Star gazing: We will know on Sunday afternoon how many Brewers will represent the National League at the All-Star Game in San Francisco. Prince Fielder seems like a lock to start. Francisco Cordero, who coughed up a save on Friday, is a shoo-in. Ben Sheets, who pitches today, seems like a strong candidate and so does J.J. Hardy, who has 18 homers and 50 RBI.

If the Brewers have the best record in the league at the break, four all-stars doesn't seem excessive.

Kick start: Kudos to Marquette basketball coach Tom Crean and his wife, Joani, who donated $100,000 toward the building of a new soccer stadium at the school.

The new stadium, to be constructed on the program's current home, Valley Fields, will feature a natural-grass surface, partially covered spectator seating, locker rooms, meeting rooms, concessions stands and restrooms.

The cost, which his estimated at $5 million, will be covered through donations. Dennis Klein, chairmain of KBS Construction, Inc., and his wife, Barbara, committed $1 million to start the project.

At the press conference to announce the gift, I bumped into Yale soccer coach Brian Tompkins, who was in town visiting his friend and former assistant, Louis Bennett, the Golden Eagles men's soccer coach.

"Things like this don't happen very often," Tompkins said. "There may have been a few cases where guys like Dean Smith or somebody donated money to another program, but it doesn't happen very often."
