Welcome to Saturday Scorecard, where we wrestle fearlessly with the major questions of the day.

Such as...

The Packers hold their Hall of Fame induction dinner tonight. Brett Favre is supposed to introduce his former center, Frank Winters. Favre is expected to speak to the media this afternoon, but the team swears he won't answer questions about his controversial comeback / rift with the organization.

Question: When was the last time a slew of reporters gathered around a source that was unable to answer questions?

Answer: It was either Punxsutawney Phil on Groundhog Day or the last White House press conference.

Question: Could the Packers evening be more awkward?

Answer: It passed awkward before the Favre stuff surfaced. Sources said Favre is going to be seated at the same table as former teammate Mark Chmura, who has criticized Favre in recent years.

Question: How is all this Favre stuff going to end?

Answer: It's not. We're doomed for the next five years.

Question: What will the Packers do with Favre?

Answer: Until he files reinstatement papers, nothing. After that, they'll work hard to trade him to an AFC team.

Question: How terrific is CC Sabathia?

Answer: Very. The big guy dominated the Giants last night en route to his second straight complete game. Sabathia also pitched nine innings in the game before the break. The last time the Brewers got consecutive complete games was July 7-8, 1995, when Steve Sparks and Ricky Bones beat the Angels. The last Brewers pitcher who went the distance in back-to-back starts was left-hander Scott Karl (Sept. 3 and 9, 1996).

Outstanding pitching aside, Sabathia is a teddy bear of a guy and he instantly fit into the fabric of the Brewers' clubhouse. Sure, he's going into his free agent year and that's going to be a time of anxiety and indecision, but few things delay those thoughts more effectively than a pennant race.

Question: Brewers manager Ned Yost wants to try to use a home-road platoon in his starting rotation, with Dave Bush pitching at Miller Park and Seth McClung throwing on the road. Is he insane?

Answer: No, but he's opening himself up to more barbs from his many detractors. This is even more radical than hitting the pitcher eighth. It probably won't work beyond the first time, but give him credit for trying. Bush's struggles on the road fall beyond the realm of the explainable, but they are real.

Question: Are the Brewers trying to upgrade their bullpen? The eighth inning situation looks like a mess.

Answer: Rumor has it that they could make a move to get Oakland closer Huston Street. That would be huge, because it would move Salomon Torres into the eighth inning. One thing to remember - adding CC Sabathia already improved the bullpen tremendously. The guy eats up innings.

Question: The Brewers aren't on TV tonight. What am I going to do with myself?

Answer: Consult your local scalper and see if you can get a ticket to the new Batman movie. Everyone says it's awesome.

Question: With all the Favre stuff going on, I haven't been paying attention to anything else. Did the Bucks make some moves this week?

Answer: Yes, they picked up Malik Allen and Tyronne Lue.

Question: Not exactly earth-shattering moves. Why should I care about them or the Bucks?

Answer: Allen and Lue are role players, but they are regarded as hard-working guys who should upgrade the chemistry of the team. Of course, the best way to do that will be by trading Mo Williams and / or Charlie Villanueva. But, Williams really can't be dealt until he recovers from thumb surgery.

Question: Greg Norman is among the leaders at the British Open? What is this, 1993?

Answer: You wonder what would have happened if he had married Chris Evert years ago.... And what about David Duvall? We'll see how both guys hold up in the 40 mph winds.

Question: Who are those guys at the top of the U.S. Bank Championship leaderboard?

Answer: Good players you've never heard of -- just like a lot of previous USBC winners. Keep an eye on Joe Ogilvie, last year's champ.

Question: We need a good, non-Favre rumor. Do you have anything?

Answer: Of course. It's probably nothing, but some Brewers players were chatting the other day and they seemed convinced that owner Mark Attanasio is interested in buying the Bucks, or at least a stake in the team.

That would be very interesting, don't you think?
