Celebrate the success of Alterra’s own Scott Lucey who was recently named winner of the "2009 Great Lakes Regional Barista Competition."

Lucey -- a barista at the Prospect Avenue location and Alterra's main barista trainer -- took top honors last weekend at the "Great Lakes Regional Barista Championship" during Coffee Fest Chicago with 687 points, the highest score of any competitor. Lucey will continue on to compete at the "United States Barista Championship" in Portland, Ore., this spring.

Dip into the celebration today at Alterra Humboldt, 2999 N. Humboldt Ave., in Riverwest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or the Prospect Avenue location, 2211 N. Prospect Ave., on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bask in the aroma of success with free sample shots of single-origin Nelson Melo espresso or "Liquid Swords," a drink made with the express purpose of showcasing the amazing flavors of this coffee.

After living on the east side of Madison for several years, Maureen returned to Milwaukee in 2006.

After a brief stint of travel, Maureen joined OnMilwaukee.com as the city’s oldest intern and has been hooked ever since. Combining her three key infatuations, Milwaukee’s great music, incredible food and inspiring art (and yes, in that order), Maureen’s job just about fits her perfectly.

Residing in Bay View, Maureen vehemently believes the city can become fresh and new with a simple move across town.
