Summerfest will host a half marathon and 10K run on the closing day of the Big Gig, Sunday, July 10.

Both races start -- at 10:15 and 10:30 a.m., respectively -- and finish at Summerfest and go over the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge. Exact routes will be announced in coming months.

Net proceeds will be divided equally between Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Wisconsin, Inc. and Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. The latter will use the money for upgrades to the children's area at Henry Maier Festival Park.

"The Summerfest Half Marathon and 10K Run and the use of the Hoan Bridge is going to be a great way to showcase Summerfest and Milwaukee to the local and national running community and to provide race enthusiasts with the opportunity to participate in a world-class event that brings music, running and fun together at the World's Largest Music Festival," said Summerfest CEO and president Don Smiley.

Runners can register online at Active.com beginning at noon today. Fees are $60 and $40 through March 31, then increase to an unannounced amount on April 1. Registration closes the day before the events.

Top 20 male and female runners in each race will earn a total of $22,000 in cash prizes. Top awards start at $2,500 and $1,250.
