It's a great week for "America's most underrated city," Milwaukee. First Yahoo! and now one of my favorite national sports guys, ESPN and Grantland.com's Bill Simmons is again (he's been a Milwaukee fan for years), extolling Milwaukee's virtues.
On Tuesday's (July 19, 2011) episode of "The B.S. Report," Simmons and Pittsburgh native Dave Dameshek discuss the resurgent Pirates and at about the 22-minute mark of the podcast both Simmons and Dameshek start talking about Milwaukee.
Simmons tells Dameshek, sports personality and writer for NFL.com, "I'm glad that you recognize how great the whole Milwaukee sports experience is. Milwaukee is your (Pittsburgh's) rival as the most underrated city."
Dameshek responds with some talk about other cities and says, "the industry in Milwaukee is beer – that's great! People talk about beer."
"Go take in a Brewers game, then afterwards take a spin around the Miller Brewery. Tailgate. Ballgame. Brewery. That's a great day." Simmons concludes, "I love Milwaukee!"
There's some more general chatter, too, so listen to the entire podcast. Actually, subscribe to it. It's a great regular listen. It's easily on my must listen to list. Hat tip to Kevin Deval who listened to the episode before I did, and gave me the tip on this Milwaukee mention. Thanks, Kevin.
Simmons' Grantland.com is another solid addition to your media world. It's full of great writing, entertaining observations and cool commentary.
