This morning, National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) chairwoman Jane Chu announced that the Skylight Music Theatre received an NEA Art Works grant. The $20,000 grant will support Skylight's upcoming world premiere of "The Snow Dragon."
"I'm pleased to be able to share the news of our support through Art Works including the award to Skylight Music Theatre," Chu said. "The arts foster value, connection, creativity and innovation for the American people and these recommended grants demonstrate those attributes and affirm that the arts are part of our everyday lives."
Adapted by award-winning novelist and composer Somtow Sucharitkul from the S.P. Somtow book "The Fallen Country," "The Snow Dragon" tells a classic tale of good versus evil, featuring a boy named Billy Binder who escapes the real world to a magical imaginary land of eternal snow and no pain. There, he fights monsters, rides dragons, rescues princesses and battles the world's evil "Ringmaster."
"We are excited about the opportunity to premiere 'The Snow Dragon' at Skylight," said Skylight artistic director Viswa Subbaraman. "It is a truly beautiful work with an extremely meaningful and relevant story."
"The Snow Dragon" will make its world premiere at the Skylight Music Theatre on Friday, March 13. You can purchase tickets here.
