Welcome to the new and improved OnMilwaukee.com Sunday Sound-off, now featuring a question, two different perspectives -- then opening up the topic to our readers' responses. Please use the Talkback feature below to contribute your thoughts on the issue.

In recent years, the mojito has gained popularity -- some might even call it "the new margarita" -- but could it ever actually replace the margarita? Milwaukee is loaded with restaurants and bars that specialize in one or the other -- a few do both equally as well-- so it's easy in this town to get a tasty margarita or a mojito. But which one do you prefer?

In honor of the Cinco de Mayo holiday -- and OnMilwaukee.com's Best Margarita Contest -- we pose the question this week: Mojitos or margaritas?

Margaritas: Margaritas are classic. They are as kindred to Mexican food as a basket of tortilla chips, and could never be replaced by another drink. Plus, margaritas have more options, from frozen to blended, and they are usually available in a variety of flavors, including strawberry, peach and that perplexing red-white-and-blue one.

Mojitos: Mojitos are a better choice because they are not as sweet and therefore more refreshing. They are loaded with fresh mint, which is a unique flavor that isn't associated with margaritas. Also, they are more visually appealing, and although they don't usually come in as many flavors as the margarita, they can be made with light or dark rum and other flavors.
