Water, even moreso than beer, is the foundation of Milwaukee's heritage.
The Native American's came here because the plentiful water. Early settlers chose the area because of its access to rivers and Lake Michigan.
Today, we use the lake and area waterways are a source of recreation, relaxation ... and of course, hydration.
Since the infamous Cryptosporidium outbreak in 1993, Milwaukee's drinking water -- drawn from Lake Michigan -- has been rated among the best in the nation.
Still, though, many here choose to turn to bottled water or add filters to their faucets or water pitchers when they're looking for a cool glass of refreshment.
