Milwaukee has a few hip neighborhoods: Bay View, Walker's Point, Riverwest, Downtown, Third Ward, Historic Concordia -- even suburban 'hoods like Shorewood and Tosa have their pockets of coolness. But which Milwaukee neighborhood is the most "forward" or, in other words, the most cutting edge, and why?

E-mail us at soundoff@staff.onmilwaukee.com and if picked, we'll post your response next Sunday. Only submissions that include your full name and where you live will be considered.

Last week's question: What should move into the old Tula's space?

I would love to see some really cool casual restaurant or nightclub go in to the Tula's space. With their gorgeous outdoor patio / Riverwalk space, I think it would be a great addition to the growing "scene" on Wells Street.

The old Tula's space is ideal for a "smart casual" restaurant that would appeal to people going to the Rep for a show and also to those who just want to hang out by the river, either for a bite or just some al fresco cocktails. The previous incarnation (Wells Street Station) was headed in the right direction, but I think it pushed a theme too much -- hip decor, a welcoming feel and a varied, casual menu would be great. It's a shame that space has been wasted for so long.

Living in the apartments next door to Tula's, I think that it would be great to see a "Margaritaville" type of restaurant. A place where you can waste a Saturday afternoon listening to good music, sipping good drinks and watching boats cruising the river. I would like to see a place a bit more lively than Rock Bottom Brewery and John Hawks Pub downtown on the river. I believe that a theme restaurant like this could be a great draw to the ever expanding dining options in downtown.

Milwaukee needs to see a Spanish tapas resturant in the old Tula's space. Cheap and delicious food, cheap sangria, and great atmosphere. Great for a Friday night out with a large group of people or for professionals over lunch.

Downtown is beginning to throw itself under the bus with more and more of "same 'ole same 'ole bars" and restaurants. Not that I don't continue to appreciate all of the new hot spots popping up, but we're desperate for something to differentiate itself and we need to attract more people into the city, especially as many are deterred by the M-Change project. Wallyball, Volleyball, Whirlyball? Throw a bar in there with some casual eats and you've got a cash cow. Full by day with corporate team building and company functions and by night with fun groups of friends, parties and leagues year round.
