Every interior design job, no matter how big or small, is special to a designer. It’s especially neat when that project can be shared for many to see. Each month we highlight a project, thanks to this OnMilwaukee Sponsored Content section. This month we take a closer look at a Greendale home that was featured in the Milwaukee NARI Tour of Remodeled Homes.

Steinhafels Decorating Solutions Interior Designer Julie Thompson took on this project. Julie is based in our Waukesha store. Julie has her Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from Mount Mary College. Her design career has spanned more than 25 years, including 10 years as an instructor at Waukesha County Technical College.

Before

Jane and Mike of Greendale came to Steinhafels after having the whole first floor of their Greendale home remodeled. They were looking to get their house ready for the Milwaukee NARI Tour of Remodeled Homes.

Julie says she enjoyed working with the couple on this project because they were able to communicate their vision for the home. This project is also a great example of how you can combine accessories a client already has with new furniture, in order to create a fresh look!

The goal

To make the living room more formal in order to complement the customer’s dining room set. In contrast, we wanted to make the family room a little more casual for TV viewing.

After

I selected this stock King Hickory Bentley Sofa to work with the customers’ lamps, artwork, and fireplace.
Since they have an "L" shaped living room, we worked with the clients’ dining room set, and added a King Hickory special order Bentley sofa. I selected this rug after finding the perfect pillow fabric. The light behind the plant in the corner adds needed general lighting, and beautiful interest by adding shadows on the ceiling.
Matching King Hickory special order Writer Chairs are perfect for reading or enjoying the beautiful outdoors.
This cabinet not only filled the wall space, but added a place for more lighting.
Dinette Canadel two-tone table and chairs work well with the dark wood floors, white trim, and white cabinets.
This cute mirrored cabinet fills the space next to the fireplace to balance the TV on the other side of the room.

Julie’s final thoughts

As a designer it was so exciting to start with a beautiful fresh canvas. Finally, to know this was going to be a part of the tour of homes, and that so many people would see my work is really gratifying.
