From warm days on the lake in the Northwoods to beautiful summer sunsets in the heart of the city, summer in Wisconsin is something to celebrate. Whether it’s on land, sea or air, there are plenty of ways to have fun in Wisconsin this summer. Here are four fun events to visit this summer:
EAA AirVenture: Oshkosh – July 23-29
It’s a bird, it’s a plane ... it’s "The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration!" AirVenture in Oshkosh brings together more than 50,000 spectators to honor the past, present and future of flight. Practice craning your neck, because you won’t want to be caught looking down. This event offers daily air shows, workshops and seminars, including industry vendors and more than 10,000 airplanes. Visit the museum, stop by the food tent and participate in educational demonstrations.
Mile of Music: Appleton – Aug. 2-5
No list of Wisconsin summer events is complete without a music festival. Get together with your fellow music aficionados and stroll down College Avenue to hear original music performed by more than 200 up-and-coming singer-songwriters and bands – for free! Every genre will be showcased including indie rock, country, gospel, R&B, jazz, folk and everything in between. With 900 shows, there’s something for everyone. At a break in the action, visit the area’s shops, restaurants and bars for a taste of local flavor.
Wisconsin State Fair: West Allis – Aug. 2-12
It isn’t summer without a trip to the Wisconsin State Fair. Experience agricultural life with a trip through the numerous animal barns. Hop on a ride in the amusement park and game area. Hungry? Try fair foods like deep-fried maple bacon cookie dough, Caribbean crepes or the classic Wisconsin cream puff – you certainly won’t leave with an empty stomach. Thirty stages offer tons of live music, including Montgomery Gentry, Casting Crowns and Reba McEntire. Free of charge: great people watching.
Harley-Davidson 115th Anniversary Celebration: Milwaukee – Aug. 29-Sept. 2
Rev your engines and celebrate the iconic motorcycle manufacturer’s milestone anniversary during Labor Day weekend. Don your finest leather and get your adrenaline pumping at the moto-carnival during the high wire motorcycle show and the thrilling Wall of Death. Watch bikes race along the shoreline of Lake Michigan for the first time in over 100 years and get a taste of local food and music at neighborhood street parties. Don’t miss the ultimate H-D biker games as trained police officers and civilian riders test their riding skills.
