It was all well and great that Spoon graced Summerfest with its presence this summer -- good, relevant acts from this decade are always appreciated at the Big Gig. But let's be serious, the outdoor 102.1 stage was not an ideal venue for such a nuanced band. Now, how about the Pabst Theater on Monday, Oct. 8? Yeah, that seems like a good fit.

Sailing on the waves of the ultra successful "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" record, which came out July 10 (just five days after the Summerfest appearance), Austin's Spoon is returning to Milwaukee with opening act The Ponys out of Chicago.

Tickets are $18 and go on sale this Friday, Aug. 24 at the Pabst Theater box office, at www.pabsttheater.org and www.tickets.com, or by phone at (414) 286-3663 or (800) 511-1552.

Also announced: The Australian Pink Floyd Show returns to the Riverside, Tuesday, Oct. 23, to play the full-length "Dark Side of the Moon" at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 and go on sale Wednesday, Aug. 29 at noon.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
