It's been only six months since The Social closed its doors for good in the Fifth Ward, but The Iron Horse Hotel's Tim Dixon is working hard to reopen the space at 170 S. 1st St. by July.

His concept is called Stacked, a bar featuring "large format sharing beers" and a restaurant specializing in upscale burgers stacked high with Wisconsin grass-fed Fountain Prairie Farms beef and artisan Wisconsin cheeses.

The bar indulges in two happy hours -- 4 to 6 p.m. and a late-night one from 10 p.m. to midnight -- and has an accessible but interesting wine list. There are also "stacks" of nostalgic beers in cans and a Milwaukee morning staple: Bloody Marys with all the fixings.

The rest of the dining menu is rounded out with sides and salads (vegetarian options available) as well as specialty shakes, like the Cream City Vanilla and Golden Cadillac, which come virgin or with booze.

The large outdoor patio along 1st Street, known as the Stacked Deck, will be dog friendly.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
