Today, the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) added stored value on MCTS M•CARD smart cards, now available for purchase at 55 retail outlet locations scattered throughout the county. The additional option of stored value comes two weeks after MCTS began selling one-day, seven-day and 31-day smart card passes.

Stored value means that bus passengers can load between $2 and $100 onto an MCTS M•CARD smart card and use that amount to pay per use. MCTS plans to use this option to replace paper tickets by offering riders a discounted fare per ride over paying with cash.

In addition, when a passenger pays using stored value, instead of a paper transfer, an electronic 90-minute transfer will be automatically loaded to the card.

MCTS plans to expand the number of retail outlets with M•CARDs weekly until around 100 smart card-equipped locations are established. To see a list of the current M•CARD kiosk locations or to learn more about the new smart card system, visit the MCTS website
