Last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that Subway now has more locations than McDonald's. Subway: 33,749; McDonald's: 32,737.

Well, make that 33,750 for Subway as the franchise will open in the former Buds by Brenda location at 1200 N. Van Buren St. in Downtown Milwaukee.

As I've noted in the past, I think it's interesting that McDonald's doesn't have a true Downtown location. In fact, other than Subway, Chipotle, Panera, Qdoba, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks (not really fast food) and the food court at the Shops of Grand Avenue, Downtown isn't drenched in fast food. Probably a good thing, generally, though.

Subway has 10 locations within a 10-mile radius of the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Water Street.  This Van Buren location will push that figure to 11.
