It's only April, but with weather like this, it's certainly not too early to start thinking about summer. And, in Milwaukee, summer means one thing: festivals.

The East Side Summer Soulstice Music Festival is working out the details of its 10th anniversary street fest this summer, set for Saturday, June 19.

Grunge fans who miss the '90s will be excited to hear that Sponge is headlining. You remember Sponge, right? The band broke through in 1995 with "Rotting Piñata," which gave the radio waves hits like "Molly" and "Plowed."

Also headlining is Milwaukee's own punk rock bluegrass band, .357 String Band. There's really nothing like fiddle on a sunny summer afternoon.

In addition to the day's main stage music, the fest kicks off at noon with the East Side Green Market, Division BMX presented by Cans Bar & Canteen, the Westbury Bank Climbing Wall, Milwaukee's Rage in the Cage Dodgeball Tournament presented by Educators Credit Union and the Qdoba Burrito Eating Contest.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
