Athens, Georgia-based Terrapin Beer is releasing a booming barrel-aged ale created in partnership with Five Trail Whiskey. Both are owned by Molson Coors.

The new Double Barrel Red Ale, which notches in a 12.7 percent ABV is an imperial red ale that’s aged six months in wet barrels that held whiskey used in Five Trail blended whiskey, which is made by Coors Spirits Co.

The limited edition beer, packaged in 16-ounce, four-pack cans, is only available in Terrapin’s home state of Georgia and in Wisconsin.

We haven’t tasted it yet but we’re told it has notes of stone fruit, raisins, oak and vanilla, and, you’ll be unsurprised to hear that it packs a punch.

Sounds like it would pair well with roasting chestnuts over an open fire.
