It may have taken five albums and a major-label leap, but Milwaukee has finally made an official date with The Decemberists.

Frontman Colin Meloy brings his cast of players and his staggeringly impressive vocabulary for a show at The Pabst Theater on Monday, April 16 with special guest My Brightest Diamond.

The Decemberists' prolific career started in '02 with the release of "Castaways and Cutouts" on Kill Rock Stars. "Her Majesty" emerged in '03 and was followed by "The Tain" EP in '04 and "Picaresque" in '05. The band's latest album, "The Crane Wife," was released in '06 on Capitol Records and garnered much critical acclaim ranking high on many year-end top 10 lists.

Tickets are General Admission, and go on sale Friday, Feb. 2 at noon for $22 at The Pabst Theater box office, on the Web at pabsttheater.org and tickets.com, or by calling (414) 286-3663 or (800) 511-1552.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
