One of the true joys of the Internet era is finding out about something cool -- a song, band, a Web site, an independent film, a funny YouTube clip or even a quirky T-shirt -- and instantly being able to tell your friends about it. It's that kind of "viral marketing" that makes guys in the boardroom salivate and fostered the creation of our popular Thursday feature, OnMilwaukee.com Recommends.
When I watched my first few episodes of "Entourage," I began harassing my friends who hadn't discovered it yet. Many became converts. Others looked at me kind of funny; sort of a cross between "Why are you so stoked about this?" and "Who the hell has time to watch TV?" look.
I know the look. I give it to people who try to get me into their favorite shows like ABC's "Lost" (never seen it), Fox's "24" (saw one episode) and HBO's "The Wire," which wrapped up a five-year run tonight (I've seen about three scenes, total).
Some very intelligent people have told me these shows are among the best in TV history. I just haven't had the time to procure the DVDs and plant myself in front of them to "catch up."
I hope to get around to it some day, because I feel like I'm letting my friends down by not sharing in their affinity for these shows.
