Update:  Renderings of the north facade of the cafe were added to this story on May 1, 2013. One features the windows and doors closed, and a second has all in the open position.  Alterra's Scott Schwebel said this in an email,  "Our goal is to have this be open as much as possible. Inviting the outdoors in. We'll have cool curbside drink and rail bike parking too. This is going to be a great cafe."

Last week, OnMilwaukee.com reported that Third Ward Caffe, 225 E. St. Paul Ave., had closed.

Today, Alterra Coffee Roasters announced it is building a new cafe inside the recently closed Third Ward Caffe space that's located across the street from the Milwaukee Public Market. It will open this summer and will be slightly smaller than the other Alterra cafes.

"The Third Ward has a great and growing retail presence. We love the walkability and diverse mix of people, business and buildings in this neighborhood," says Scott Schwebel, Alterra’s director of marketing.

"Because of its smaller size, we are exploring a slightly different cafe experience geared especially toward this urban neighborhood. This will be a wonderful new edition to our family of cafes."

The Third Ward cafe will be Alterra's 12th area location if you count Mitchell International Airport and the U.S. Bank location.
