If you are ready to give up your quest for tickets to a heavily-hyped Marcus Amphitheater show at Summerfest, here is a word of advice from Bob Babisch, the festival's vice president of entertainment:

Don't.

As hardcore fans of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and several other top-drawing acts have learned in recent years, there is often a last-minute "ticket drop," that occurs a day or two before or even the morning of a show. Fans who are persistent in checking the Internet and box office can often nab hard-to-find tickets at face value.

"There are almost always tickets available on the day of the show," Babisch said. "We have situations where the band walks in and they held X amount of tickets for people and they decide they don't need them. Or, the configuration of the building is such that tickets that they didn't think should be sold are OK to sell. But, there are almost always tickets available."

Babisch expects the performances by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Pearl Jam on Thursday and Friday nights to be the highest-attended shows in the history of the Marcus Amphitheater.
