Start your local shopping on Saturday with a cup of coffee in a welcoming, light-filled space that’s hosting a book release for four local authors.

The free event takes place at Tribeca GalleryCafe & Books, 1318 S. 1st St., starts at 10 a.m. and features books for both adults and kids: "Buy My Book: Not Because You Should, But Because I'd Like Some Money" by Johnny Edward Marszałkowski; "Martha Dreams of Dinosaurs" by Christy Watson; "This Road Must Go Somewhere" by Becky Franzel and "The Status Game II" by Mark Bradford which is a book and a card game.

The real stories behind these printed stories are equally heartfelt.

Franzel, who will donate $8 of every $10 book purchase to the the National Alliance on Mental Illness – Milwaukee Chapter (NAMI), wrote "The Road Must Go Somewhere" after she found her best friend and high school sweetheart dead.

"In an attempt to navigate through this grief, I decided to follow the last band we saw together," says Franzel. "I wrote a book on this experience – on what I learned and the people I met on this journey."

"Martha Dreams of Dinosaurs" is Watson’s first published book, although she wrote two others for her nephews in the past. "I love children but am unable to have my own – so I'll take this grief and love and create fun, colorful, imaginative stories all kids can enjoy," she says.

Marszałkowski’s motivation for "Buy My Book: Not Because You Should, But Because I'd Like Some Money" comes from a variety of inspirations, including his college-bound daughter.

"I know the title of my book sounds a little greedy, but honestly, I’m just trying to do damage control in case she gets into Harvard or something," says Marszałkowski.

All of the books are available Saturday and beyond at Tribeca, as well as online.
