Have you been meaning to enroll in TSA Pre-Check to speed up your airport security experience. A temporary enrollment center is at Mitchell Airport now.

The temporary enrollment center is located near the Miller store in the airport concourse at 5300 S. Howell Ave. It opens Monday, Jan. 23 and runs through Friday, Feb. 3. The center is open weekdays only, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m.

Passengers who enroll in in TSA Pre-Check don't have to take off their shoes, belts and light outwear, or take out their laptops and liquids when passing through TSA security screening at airports.

And you also get to use a special line that's often shorter and quicker than the standard security line.

All the airlines that currently serve Mitchell Airport take part in the program and more than 200 airports participate.

Enrollees are encouraged to pre-enroll and schedule an interview at to avoid a wait.

According to Mitchell Airport, after completing the pre-enrollment steps, applicants type in the location “Milwaukee, WI” and click on the search button to select the enrollment site for “Pop Up: MKE, 1/23-2/3” and then click “Next.”

Then select an appointment slot from the drop-down menu, which will show the first available time.

For extra safety, appointments are spaced. Walk-ins are available.

You must bring documentation proving identity and citizenship status. Check the Universal Enroll website to see which documents to bring, which is based on citizenship status.

At the enrollment center, you'll have to provide fingerprints and proof of citizenship or legal residency and pay $85 for a five-year membership.

According to Mitchell Airport, successful applicants will get a Known Traveler Number (KTN) via U.S. mail that is valid for five years. The enrollee should enter the provided KTN in the “Known Traveler Number” field when booking airline reservations. The KTN also can be added when booking reservations online via a participating airline website, via phone call to the airline reservation center or with the travel management company making reservations. Additionally, the KTN can be entered in participating airline frequent flyer profiles, where it will be stored for future reservations.
