It's 4:15, dinnertime is around the corner and the sputtering Brewers square off against the Pirates tonight at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

That got us to thinking ... about pierogi.

Pierogi are half-circular dumplings of dough stuffed with cheese, potato, sauerkraut, cabbage, onion, meat, fish, mushrooms and just about anything else you can think of that fits.

They love them in Pittsburgh, a city filled with Polish immigrants, much the way Milwaukeeans love bratwurst.

In fact, Pittsburgh is a lot like Milwaukee. They love their food and their beer (Iron City, yikes). And, they love to watch their food race. That's right. Every night at PNC Park, fans cheer for pierogi race contestants Jalapeno Hannah, Cheese Chester, Sauerkraut Saul and Oliver Onion. (Gee, I wonder where they got that idea?)

In any event, here is a look at the nightly pierogi race. Let's hope that none of the Brewers swings a bat at Sauerkraut Saul this week to take revenge for Randall Simon's decking of a sausage at Miller Park.
