Milwaukee is filled with hidden retail gems boasting unique collections of housewares, clothing, jewelry and one-of-a-kind gift items. In this series, we're highlighting some of the best of the bunch and giving you all the information you need to shop smarter while supporting local artisans and business owners.

Earlier this year, The Waxwing moved from it's East Side location to a rehabbed studio space in The Factory Building, 1223 S. 23rd St. The new space is a shipping warehouse, interactive space and most likely a retail space in the future when public health allows. Currently, Waxwing is selling completely online

"We offer same day shipping & delivery Mon-Sat on all orders placed by noon and will deliver right to your door – in the Milwaukee area – all the way up until Christmas Eve," says owner Steph Davies.

The Waxwing continues to offer some of the city's cutest, most useful and unique items – many to most are made locally – from hundreds of artisans. Whether you're shopping for Secret Santa, your BFF, the cousin you drew in the family gift lottery, the new sweetie, the old sweetie or for your nice self – there's plenty to choose from.

Sections include accessories; apparel; bags and wallets; bath and skin care; candles, incense and matches; cards; decor; dry goods, gift sets and more. There's also a section highlighting Black artists and makers.

Indeed, 2020 has been challenging for everyone, but Davies is adapting.

"I’ve gone from total devastation to acceptance to determination and now relief. Well, relief and exhaustion. It feels good to have settled into a new chapter and to have the full Waxwing crew on board in some way," says Davies. "I know everyone has been effected so no support is too small and none of it goes unnoticed. Thanks for being great, Milwaukee."
