All across town local bands are duking it out for recognition, but perhaps none want it more than Steez or Fat J and the Pinners.

Both bands have spent the spring battling for the chance to show off their skills this summer. Combined, the acts received more than 200 audience votes and the victor of the final contest wins a slot on the Harley-Davidson Roadhouse stage at Summerfest 2008.

It goes down this Friday, May 16 at the Up and Under Pub. House of Harley kicks it off at 6 p.m. with a weather-permitting ride from headquarters at 6221 W. Layton Ave. to the finals.

Gasman from WHQG, 102.9 "The Hog" shows up at 9 p.m. to broadcast live on-site as the bands perform two sets each. A $5 cover gets you through the door and the chance to find out what these new Hogmaster drinks are all about.

Y ou can hear both bands perform live tomorrow on 88NINE Radio Milwaukee beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
