A lot has come and gone on the East Side, but Von Trier – despite one big scare last year – has remained for four decades as an anchor on the neighborhood's main intersection, providing community, a cozy atmosphere and tasty pints of beer. And if that's not worth celebrating, then we don't know what is.
Well, Von Trier agrees, as the iconic, newly retouched East Side bar will host a 40th anniversary on Sunday, July 22.
The festivities will begin at 2 p.m., with a complimentary spread of hors d'oeuvres making the rounds – along with drink specials – at 3 p.m. And if none of that fits your fancy, the Von Trier always has its impressive German draught beer lineup, lauded craft selection, tap wines and cocktail list.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
