West Milwaukee residents will have a new place to shop for their Thanksgiving dinners, as the much-anticipated Sendik’s location on the east side of Miller Park Way opens Tuesday, Nov. 15. The new grocery store sits between Mitchell and Burnham streets and fills the final piece of undeveloped land on bustling Miller Park Way.
At a time when the Milwaukee area grocery market is saturated with big box retailers, Sendik’s continues to hold its own as a growing, family owned and operated local business. The West Milwaukee location is the first of six additional Sendik’s stores planned to open in the next 12 to 15 months – including two Fresh2GO locations in Greendale and Hales Corners, and stores in Brookfield (The Corners), Muskego and Waukesha (Meadowbrook). The expansion will also fuel job growth, increasing Sendik’s associate base from 1,700 to 2,500.
"We’re proud to help complete the final piece that brings Miller Park Way to life just in time for the busy holiday shopping season," said Ted Balistreri, family co-owner. "As we look ahead to the coming year, we’re excited about the opportunity to serve a growing customer base that is responding to personalized service, outstanding food options, and our local, family owned and operated approach."
Sendik’s continues to grow as a company in other ways, as it works toward a more sustainable and convenient shopping experience at every location, with innovations including Grind2Energy, the cutting-edge food waste disposal system, and Sendik’s Express, a way for busy shoppers to order groceries online for curbside pickup. In addition, the Sendik’s Fresh2GO stores offer a faster shopping experience, but still have the quality products customers deserve.
The 42,000-square foot West Milwaukee Sendik’s joins other new stores and restaurants on a 4.6-acre site that includes two main buildings. The development includes Goodwill and Applebee’s locations. Goodwill will hold its grand opening Friday, Nov. 18 and Applebee’s will open in summer 2017.
