The first full day of competition got started today at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver and two Olympians with Wisconsin ties were in action, though neither medaled.
Long track speedskaters Shani Davis and Trevor Marsicano, who both train at the Pettit National Ice Center, took part in the men's 5,000-meter competition at the Richmond Oval.
Davis, a Chicago native who resides in Milwaukee, finished 12th with a time of 6 minutes, 28.44 seconds. Marsicano, born and raised in West Allis, took 14th with a 6:30.93 time.
Fellow American Chad Hedrick took 11th (6:27.07) while The Netherlands' Sven Kramer took the gold.
Later tonight, Hales Corners resident Aly Dudek will participate in the short track 500-meter and 3,000-meter relay.
