In January, we reported that the ax-throwing bar trend was flinging its way over to the East Side with AXE MKE moving next to Black Cat Alley at 1924 E. Kenilworth Pl.

Now, they've targeted an opening date.

The newest project from Splash Studio and Nine Below owners Marla and David Poytinger, AXE MKE is currently taking reservations for its 12 ax-throwing lanes for dates beginning June 20. The new space, which will also include a full bar, will also take reservations for earlier June dates as a part of AXE MKE's soft opening, which includes a grand opening party set for June 16.

"We’ve had people begging us to open reservations since we announced the concept," said Marla Poytinger, who owns the business with her husband David, in a press release. "We’re thrilled the launch date is finally here."

"We’re ready to start booking all the bachelor/bachelorette parties, team building events, baby showers and even divorce parties that Milwaukee has to offer," said David Poytinger, in the release. "We’ve even had people reach out to us about hosting their Dungeons and Dragons party at AXE MKE this summer – in full costume of course. We said, ‘Bring it on!’"

The concept of an ax-throwing bar is exactly as it sounds: You rent a cage and throw axes at a target at the end of the lane. A similar blade-chucking bar option is  also expected to open in Bay View with Bounce planning ten lanes of ax-throwing action as well.

Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee for more details on AXE MKE's opening as it comes closer. In the meantime, sing ... sing! ... SING!

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
