Last week, Edward DeShazer and Mike Edler, who also own No. 720 on Milwaukee Street, opened their second venture, WhiteTail Milwaukee, which is a sports lounge with unique decor and a passion for community.

WhiteTail Milwaukee is located at 1110 N. Old World 3rd St., inside the former 1983 Arcade Bar, and just a few hops from Fiserv Forum. (Thus, the name is a nod to a deer / buck's tail.)

The space boasts nine large TVs for game-watching as well as other group viewing events like "The Bachelor" every Monday starting in January.

"We want to be a destination for people going to Bucks games or concerts, but at the same time, a comfortable neighborhood bar," says DeShazer. "Downtown is a neighborhood to many people and we want to be their go-to place."

The menu features cocktails, a solid wine list and almost 40 different beers. The WhiteTail Punch, Bourbon Milk Punch and Trinidad Sour stood out to us during a recent visit. DeShazer says they hope to offer food in the near future, but for now encourage patrons to bring in eats from nearby restaurants.

Most impressive about the renovated space is the decor, created by Maryjean Sparks and Tommy Stemper. Beautiful tile work, hard wood, striking light fixtures including antler chandeliers and a massive, 20-foot antique mirror provide a feel similar to Boone & Crockett. Details like a hand-painted deer head, "living wall" made from plants and greenery and hip floral wallpaper give WhiteTail Milwaukee a vibe all of its own.

DeShazer (second from the right in photo below with his staff) grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Nicolet High School. He went on to play football for St. Cloud State in Minnesota, but chose to return to Milwaukee after receiving his degree.

"I grew up in Milwaukee. My son is growing up in Milwaukee. And I love giving back to Milwaukee," he says. "I especially want to encourage people to get out, check out different neighborhoods in Milwaukee and enjoy the best it has to offer."

WhiteTail Milwaukee will have a grand opening in January. It will be open on New Year's Eve for a casual, cover-free evening including a free champagne toast at midnight. Regular hours will be Monday-Thursday from 4 p.m. to midnight; Friday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to midnight.
